Was a long game on large map.  Not sure but I think more than 90 turns.  Beacon win from what I experienced is not all that practical and maybe that is why it has not been done previously.  Need two races at max governance which is tough enough, then building and lighting the beacons, and then defending against the considerable counterattacks by the AI on the beacon cities which tied up a lot of troops.  Also had to convert many orc/drac cities to Elf to gain second max racial governance as Elf.  Then it was just battles by elite stacks against the two remaining human players.  They had been locked in combat for many turns which depleted their strength.  I had given notice that I was going to build beacons with 6 turns advance notice to each of the 2 remaining players so they could form an alliance.  One was rogue and those silent killing stalkers were quite a menace.  I love/hate stalkers!!

Game was won by Rickyroo not rrrookie.

Was a thoroughly enjoyable game.  Thanks to all players, especially Mauvebutterfly for hosting.  You said you wanted a good fun and not overly serious game and you accomplished that in spades !!!  Would be interested to know why cthulhu quit the game.

cheers and beers

By the way, I think that's the first Beacon victory reported on the BF?
How did it happen? Which turn? And why nobody was able to conquer the Beacon cities?

@Gilafron: you are on the game blog here, you need to go to the report to be able to edit the class/race: https://www.the-battlefield.c... />
@all: please try to update other players' class/race too, I can't believe only 3 players remember only their own class/race

I can't figure out how to specify my race/class.  I was Goblin Warlord.

It was a fun game.  Me and cwolfy beat up each other and couldn't knock the other out, so rrookie built up a too powerful army and won by unity beacon.

Match has been reported, please confirm!

Hey all

Hope that the game is going well for you.

I just wanted to post an update here. One player has been defeated, and another player (Cthulhu) left the game, so his faction is now controlled by the AI (Lord difficulty I believe.)

We also regularly seem to have a couple of players miss their turn timers, so we might effectively be playing a 4 player game on a huge map at this point. I haven't been following it closely enough to know if it's the same players missing their turns each time or if different people miss it on each cycle.

In other words, don't expect this game to be at all typical the more serious games that usually get played around here, but it's still good fun all the same and I'm enjoying this one. I hope those of you who are sticking around are enjoying your turns too!

The game is actually started!

I have turned on the turn timer (time limit is 1 day), but I check here nearly every day, and I get email notifications if you post here, so please let me know if you need the timer turned off again for whatever reason.

I was hoping for a response on my last message.

Anyway, I have started the game, and will disable the turn timer before it expires.

Going forward, I will turn the turn timer on if nobody posts an absence here, but in the meantime, the game will at least be running so a few people can start getting their turns in.

New idea. How about we just start this game and I disable the turn timer until the 24th? Once the game has started, that's how we'll have to handle these things anyway, so at least we can get a few turns in.

I will still be turning the turn timer on if there isn't any notice here, so please continue to post here if you have a reason for not playing and I will accommodate you. Otherwise, we'll just skip your turn after 24 hours if you haven't been playing.

Drenn, are you good to play your first turn whenever? I vaguely recall there being some issues with the very first turn for the first player when having a turn time limit (there is some kind of bug for this edge case), so I'd prefer not to mess with the timer until after you play your first turn.

edit: also, just a clarification for new people who feel that this game will be going too slowly. This is intended to be a casual 8-player FFA for getting people a chance to play a game and ask questions as they go. Obviously, 8-player games take a very long time in PBEM, so if you want something faster paced, you are better off requesting or starting a different game.

sorry guys, but 19th I begin a trip to the 24th :S

Everybody is in, so I will be starting the match on the 19th once chiveicrook gets back.

For some reason the game wasn't letting me reorder our turn sequence. Once I put myself last instead of first, it suddenly accepted it.

This means that Drenn will be the first player. I will send Drenn a PM on Thursday as a reminder, and will then start the game the following day.

Also, since I am located in Korea, this will probably be on the 18th in some of your timezones, but since we have 7 players to get through before chiveicrook, I hope that this won't cause a problem. I expect things to be a little slow initially as we get used to the schedule of this game. Also a reminder that there will be a 1-day turn-timer, so we will, in the worst case scenario, still be playing one turn a week if every other player can't play their turn for some reason.

Yeah, sorry about all the delays. I was on vacation for a week and haven't been harassing people as much as I should have been.

Hopefully we'll have everybody in by the time you get back. I'll postpone starting the match until then.

Given that I reminded people to join over a week ago, I guess I'll start sending PMs and then looking for a replacement if it comes to that. Hopefully this won't be too much longer before we start.

Hey all!
I won't be available until friday 19th. I hoped to play a few turns before my vacation but this game took way longer to start than I expected.

cwolfy: are you christopher wolf in-game? I will be assuming this is you unless I hear otherwise.

Everybody else in-game matches their battlefield name, so that's easy enough.

Waiting on rickyroo222 and Cthulhu2814, although Cthulhu posted here just now, so I suspect we are just waiting on one player to join in-game at this point.

Also, I will be changing the turn-order in-game to match the playtime statistics listed on Battlefield after everyone has joined. Basically, this means that turns should theoretically be done in a way that matches people's schedules and time-zones, allowing us to play our turns faster. In an 8-player game I don't expect to be playing a turn every day, but changing to the playtime order will hopefully allow us to each get at least two or three turns done each week.

The game is named:

mauvebutterfly's Game

(I forgot to rename it when making it in the game.)

The password:

twenty

I'm planning to join, but what's the password to mauvebutterfly's game?

for Marky

which player shall be replaced?

:-)

We have 8 players here, but only 6 in-game. Please join this game so we can start.

Also, I have had the great fortune of being allied with cbower during a casual game, and I learned a lot just from watching replays of his battles. Seriously, if any of you want to learn some more about the competitive side of AoW3, cbower will be able to help you out.

If you have questions about AOW3 PBEM play or you just want to see how the experienced players play, please join my academy game hosted here. It will be  a casual game where we answer questions and talk tips, tricks, and strategy.

oh, ok right XD "it's my strategy, yes... not a mistake  haha, all calculated"

@Drenn: do not display your class/race now because everyone will see it. You can display it when you will have met everyone in game.

Nice to see! If you guys have questions or just want to talk age send me a PM here. I will try to respond. Good Luck guys.

Nice! A 8 players game full with many new players! <smiletext0>
I think mauve may be on the plane right now but he should probably launch the game soon so be patient. <smiletext0>

Good luck all! And if you want to open more games, please do: Games -> Create Game http://www.the-battlefield.co...

Age of Wonders 3

As per Hiliadan's suggestion, I have opened a second 8 player FFA. All rules are the same as the previous one, but this game is specifically for less-skilled or newer players.

Map Settings are taken from the PBEM tournament rules, excepting that the map size is large to accommodate more players.

We will start whenever we get 8 people, although if it is taking a long time and people are okay with it, I may start the map with only 6 or 7 players.

We will be playing with the PBEM balance mod, which is a mod that most games and all tournament matches at this site will likely be using, so it's also a good chance to experiment with the mod if you aren't familiar with it. No other mods will be used.

To install the mod, follow it on Steam, and it should be available under the "User Content" tab when loading the game.

I prefer a 2-day timer. I'm a fast player and do play daily, but sometimes RL sneaks in and causes me to miss a day.  I imagine that this happens for others as well.

Plus, I'm all for changing the game to non-top 15 so MarkyMark can join.  <smiletext0>

i'm on 19, but i'm not Feeling than top Player.

I would prefer a one day timer as this game could take months to complete.  2 day timer is fine if that is what everyone wants.

No matter the timer I shouldn't participate right now. Life is just too busy.

I always stick with a 2 day timer. The active players will play their turns anyways and usually faster then 2 days and if they happen to have a busy day they still have the next to do their turn.
With a 2 day timer the inactive players will drop out eventually as well, but you will notice a lot faster than with a week timer <smiletext0>
An 8 player game usually have dropouts, but if you play it via this website the dropout should be a lot lower then normal, if not none.

The problem with not doing a one-day timer is that a game like this would just never finish.

I don't mind going slower though, so if people are okay with a two-day timer I'd consider it. It's only really a problem if everybody is taking as long as possible with their moves. As I said elsewhere, I had a group that just died out. In an 8-player game only three of us were playing our turns. I forget what the timer was set to (a week, maybe?) but the timer stalled when one of the inactive players was eliminated. Apparently they needed to log in to be notified that they were done before the turn would move on, and the result of that was that after a month or two the Triumph server deleted the game for inactivity.

Too bad, since it was an interesting house-rules game too. We were only allowed to ever control a single city, and all other cities had to be vassals. Also, only one T4 and one hero per stack (not that we ever got to T4 units.)
