Thanks guys this was fun. This was the first time I ever got to get Earth Elementals in PBEM, I knew they were good, but I didn't realize they were this good. The large map was fun. I saw Hiliadan take over AIX territory early, so I wanted to get moving in that direction. Xint I think on these maps you need to split your forces and spread out early. I found I had lots to do, my turns took a long time to complete. I had clustered my units in the early going but as I could I split them in three direction. I moved the C&B team on separate paths that would link up against Hiliadan. I moved my A Team down towards Gladis. Earl and I agreed on a early non aggression pact, which allowed me to span out. Sometimes I think focusing in on a border war can really be detrimental to both sides. Moving in three directions I sometimes would do 6 sites or more in a turn. When you have the space to operate, you can play a little looser, when it gets close it can slow things down because you spend more time tracking your opponent. Just my opinion.

Was a game without Action for me, just waiting for cbowers earth elementals. Was strong enough to beat my 4 stacks without being hurted really.

i have no reason to be 3rd here - and please understand me well - i'm making remarks about the system, so try and don't feel like i'm personally offending you (whoever you are). So i played 40 turns of researching my t4 unit and some scout wars and i got to be 3rd... no reason at all - i don't feel like i won and my lost was meaningless. We should define better templates for this kind of games - definitely a lot less water OR someway to have the water full of interesting stuff in it - it's just an empty space ):

Well played cbower!
Your spec were not Earth though, where did the Earth Elemental come from?

I'll comment further later when I'm at home with my screenshots.

I'm back in the top 8! Now is the time for a top 8 game!
And welcome to the top 8 xlnt!

I had a unit near your south-eastern city but it was too weak to attack. I actually planned on trying an attack against one of your irregular one turn later but I died before! So I saw your strategic spells. But more generally, I saw very few of your Cherubs, especially after I killed the first one(s?) early on.

I don't disagree on what makes a map fun for you. I disagree with "on this map i got to sit and stare at all that water and curse the RNG". That was the consequence of how you played, not of randomness.
I'm not sure where gladis, Mark and EarL started in the map (never got close to them) but I think Keldon was alone in the UG and any of us could have seized the occasion to go UG and develop there. That's what I tried but too late, as cbower fell on me just when I was starting to expand (had built a city the turn before he attacked).
So you could have gone UG (you had at least an entrance east of your throne, I know because I used it).
You could also have attacked Keldon much earlier, I saw your troops move near his city guarded by a stack of at least 1 Draconian Flyer, but then you moved back and went to the Angel Shrine. So you avoided interactions there.
You could have tried to attack me through the sea (as your Cherubs did early on).
I'm not sure what as West of you.
And then, look at cbower: he started more or less like you but on the opposite corner. He had no one east (me, but through probably 3 turns of water), I'm not sure who was south of him, but it looks like it was Markymark, far also. Still, in 40 turns, he killed several players and then launched a combined assault on me and you.

So, ok, maybe large map is too big for you and you prefer more actions. But what I'm trying to say is: don't blame randomness. Blame yourself or blame the size of the map.
Personally, I'm perfectly ok with little interaction during 40 turns, if it allows me to expand, and be stronger when I eventually face my opponents.

Waiting for cbower's report to post my screenshots!

Hiliadan - if you can't see my sarcasm tags - well then i did a great job entertaining myself (:

my superb scouting was kinda sacrificed for some gold gathering - that is correct, although i'm not sure how you could know that
EarL's 4 stacks were not expected but it was just a mistake i did - to go where no scout has ever gone before. I risk when i'm losing because i'm losing anyway (;

That doesn't mean the RNG was any good or the game was not boring - both are true for me - i had 40 turns of fighting no one ): anyway - i don't want you to agree with me on what makes a game interesting for me - i'm just saying what happened...

what do you disagree with, what is the argument? that the RNG can't make a map worth spending 40 turns on or that i can't play good enough to beat the errors in the generated map? (:

Game is over! well played, cbower - those earth elementals (master 6 haha) are too strong to bring them down - especially in auto-combats <smiletext0>

xlnt, I disagree with you. It has little to do with randomness. We all had water around us (except Keldon) and you had 40 turns to deal with your starting position. You had no one around you, unlike several of us. You lacked scouting because you should have seen the 4 stacks coming (I knew he was going to be there the turn after, and I knew you were not far). You could also maybe have seen cbower coming.
You can curse randomness but I think you should also consider how best to take advantage of the map (like when and where to go underground) and improve your scouting.

I'd like to make another 8 players map like that later! My current plan is: 1/ Westeros game, 2/ 3 vs 3, 3/ 8 players

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

and then there were only two

there were times when i really hated the game - so many restrictions imposed by the map ): in HoMM3 you just go on and show the AI how much smarter you're and beat everything in sight and on this map i got to sit and stare at all that water and curse the RNG ):

anyway - i jumped islands at some point and had 10-ish turns of fun and researched the t4 unit - next 5 turns everybody died (:

there was absolutely no interaction with the players for me and all i did was punish 2 mistakes by Keldon and Hiliadan and each of those actions led to killing the player....

next turn i pop my stack out of the underground and i see 4 stacks of gold medaled units, so i leave the best stack i could manage to guard the entrance and got it killed 1on1 or (6on6) with no dmg. on the opponent what-so-ever and in the same turn a six-pack of earth elementals get my capitol so this was the game for me.

what i learned from this game is that pike units are stronk! and i love the orc knight (; and i preffer 1on1 games or ffa for 3-5 players.

Next to be eliminated: Warlord Keldon and then me.
Interesting game and very interesting scores! I'll post when it's finished. <smiletext0>

It looks like there was a big bug in the calculation of the playtime, and therefore of the turn order. It should be fixed now. I recalculated the turn order and you can see that it's quite different from what we have now! <smiletext6>

We did tests with Markymark for the tool when it was implemented but an error slipped into the code later on.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

what i entered is correct - there might be an issue with the conversion (my timezone is indeed UTC+2 as you suggested)

i'll send you a PM when i start playing my next turn, so we can check at what time you'll receive it and we'll see what is wrong (:

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

I don't think you should write 19:00-24:00 given that - as I said - you often play after me. In my timezone, your playtime is 15:00-19:00 and usually I play at 22:00, but it happened several times that at 1:00, you still hadn't played your turn.
So maybe your timezone is wrong? Because there is a more than 6 hours gap with what you say.

Your displayed timezone is +2. Mine is +8. So your 20:00-24:00 should be 2:00-6:00 in my timezone (which is what I observe based on the time you play your turns). Are you sure you have written 20:00-24:00 here: http://www.the-battlefield.co... ? It's strange, it would mean there is a big bug in the system but I don't understand how we haven't spotted it earlier.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Well i'm sure i play b/n 20.00 and up untill 24.00 and based on this:

Published on 2016-04-05 19:13:13:

maybe i got it right or i should put 19.00-24.00 but i'm not sure i can make it home that fast each night (expecially now when i have hours of sunlight after work and so much parks and beers to do (; )

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Xlnt, are you sure your playtime is this? Because usually, you play after I go to sleep (like now).

user

user

i'm out, have fun. Cbower has beat me with earth elementals. Are too strong for me.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Hi everyone!
Just when I had gotten back to 1 day turn timer, I'm going in business trip again, starting on Sunday evening. So I put the turn timer back to 3 days.
In addition, I'll have to use my work PC (or maybe I'll have enough space to put my own PC in my luggage too, we'll see), so I may have some crash, but in theory, it should be fine.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

I am developing an old and familiar issue with random maps... RNGesus was not on my side here and i got a terrible, terrible start. Some players got to hit hero lvl15 in idk what turn and i'm just starting to fight battles i should have done ages ago );

So yeah - blame it on the map ): in HoMM3 we had this rule where a map is restarted if someone says so during the 1st 1-2-3 turns or there are no mines where they should be and very often i get my 2nd town un-reachable because of:
1. water
2. water with rocks in it

not that i want you to embrace this as your own right now - just saying (;

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Yes, it's nice too! But we have only just begun, I'm eager to see how it evolves!
Regarding duels, I think the settings we have been using so far need some tweaking: few sites and a slightly bigger map (that needs to be created by a mod because it doesn't exist right now).

Large Longer Games
I think I am starting to like these larger longer games, what do you guys think?

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

ok, now I play only with my  office PC, from Monday to Friday and sometime I can play on Saturday.

Warlord, another restart? I think you really should play only with your PC that doesn't crash, hopefully that would not disturb the turn order that much, when would that be?

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

I didn´t move any units so I can´t answer your question for sure<smiletext1>

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Ok! When it re-opened, you started where you had left yesterday? If yes, it's strange that it gives an Ironman notification, that's truly a bug and maybe you should report it to the devs.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

didn´t have enough time yesterday, saved and left and now the re-opening was declared as an restart. As you will see, I will get defeated soon, so this makes no difference. Just be happy that you weren´t be hitted by this armies xD

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

I am at the airport, going back to China, so I should not have issues any more as I will be using my home PC (until 20 March and my next business trip...), I will also move back the timer to 1 day.
But, AoW3 crashed during the loading of the game... So I hadn't played anything.

@Keldon: I didn't know it displayed "turn restarted x2" if you reloaded twice, interesting!

user

problems whit my laptop, sorry guys.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

I eventually got a working charger! I'm on my work PC and it is shitty.... I moved it a bit and it just crashed with a blue screen near the beginning of my turn (I've taken a photo ).  <smiletext6> <smiletext6> So Ironman notification....
I hope it will not happen again but I'm afraid it will... I'm back in China on 7 March....

So I'm the opposite of you Warlord: works better at home than at work.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Hi!
I'm on a business trip until 7 March more or less so Imimcreased the turn timer to habe more flexibility. i somehow forgot my laptop charger in China... i hope to get ome im Ivory Coast when I arrive otherwise it will be tricky. So waiting to have my charger before playing my turn.

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Do you have any mods installed?
Maybe you can report your issue in the official forum so that the developers can try to fix it?

user
Publié le Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

Sorry guys but I do not know what to do, my laptop crashes when I open a quest. I have no problem in the office but at home it is a drama. I play the tournament game to 90% in the office but not the other turns, if you want i can play this match at office with some delay.
as you wish, I don't have any problem.

We're 7 left!

Mark, you restarted your turn?
