Posts to the game:

The three theocrats beat on each other a bunch, the druid started to take over their territory, and then xInt and I managed to knock out the druid. I had been building up an empire without being attacked for most of the game, so I had a significant city and research lead going into the final confrontation with xInt and he surrendered rather than play it out. Overall a very interesting and fun game. This game was played without the PBEM balance-patch. (I can now finally leave that thing on all the time now! No more non-patch games!)

1st of all it is xLnt

2nd - about the hidden orc shock trooper - i would have attacked the vassal IF there was no player unit and it could have been just 1 kobolt or a tier4. What matters is that i CAN'T do a manual battle if there is a player's unit ): I'll never attack in auto mode with walkers (:

3rd - Kwibus - thanks man! The game was amazing for you too - i have never, never seen such fast tier3 stack! Kwibus had a 6pack of evolved martyrs into Exalted by turn ~15 !!!

Skuns had a necro with all kind of t3/t4 not much turns after that!!! We all did amazing things in this game (;

Mauve managed to beat the necro forces - i don't know how, that was amazing too (:

Kwibus, the score seems to indicate you significantly led the game for a few turns, what happened?

I'm just amazed by how xlnt is able to play this game. I know your an HoMM3 veteran and I guess that's where you got this skill from.

I've been on online gamer and decent at it as well, but that were shooters/mmorpgs and at these type of games I'm just not good enough. I'm a builder type, always work from the defensive and that just doesn't work in these games. xlnt you seemed to be everywhere which was quite amazing.

Personally for me this was a horrible game. I just can't handle being all over the map. Unless ofcourse the entire map is mine <smiletext1>

I got the feeling that you would be much better at rogue than I am, based on how it was playing out.

This was a very strange game for me. I just played sim city while the theocrats beat each other up, and ended up with a dense patch of 7 cities while everyone else only had a few sparsely located around the map.

After Skuns started to invade the theocrats, Kwibus convinced me that Skuns was running away with the game, so I snuck in and took his throne room, but he had a level 15 non-balance-patch necromancer hero that forced me to run my armies around in circles until I finished evolving a bunch of shadow stalkers. I then took out several big armies of his including the necromancer and xInt took his new throne and leader down.

Overall, I feel like I just played defensively and didn't actually use any rogue sneakiness at all until the very end against xInt, and even then, I was mostly just keeping big stacks of Shadow Stalkers to protect my core cities while my leader stack flew around picking up all of Skuns' old cities.

I do think that partisan saved one of my vassals though. Had a Shock Trooper hidden in the mountains next to a town that xInt was going to swarm with crusaders. I suppose the trooper not being hidden would have done the same thing, but this way I suspect he didn't know he couldn't manual combat the battle until after trying to attack.

Thanks for the game everyone. It made me want to practice rogue and experiment with partisan, so I might play around with that in single-player for a bit and expand my AoW horizons.

I moved a unit to check what unit was on the tile.

Good game mauvebutterfly - i surrendered in my last turn

I had no unit to beat those shadow elementals and it would have been another 20-ish turns of cat and mouse (which i'm good at) and i decided to spare us all this exercise (:

Thanks to all for the imencely fun game - it came at a point for me at which i was thinking anout not playing AoW3 anymore. Kwibus had a baby halfway in the game! The crazy good Russian necromancer (and my teammate) did a splendid game and i did a good cat and mouse chase with him (:

My appologies to Starfleck - the luck was all mine in the 1st and last battle we did ):

Yeah, I figured that the terraform spell would give my raven away. I did find it funny that I could pillage a bunch of your terraform pits without declaring war on you though. I suppose that could be considered an exploit too, especially if you raze a city being built or something.

Is the terraform exploit telling you I have an army there, or did it tell you exactly what my army was? Unless you moved a unit out from your city to check, you shouldn't have known that it was a raven, right?

@Hiliadan: What kind of reduction were you thinking of for the true sight? I can understand the developers wanting all races to have a true sight unit, but giving it to all supports makes it easy to just inadvertently have. Also, on heroes they get the true sight vision within their entire vision range, right? Wasn't this an issue on sorcerer heroes a while back?

Unfortunately, I can't say that Partisan has been that helpful to me, but invisible scouts all over the map seems fun for the novelty of it. It's hard to notice the bonus from Folk Hero while playing a long game like this, especially since I also get rogue and peacekeeper bonuses to diplomatic actions. Aside from Folk Hero and Partisan Army, I don't think I've used anything. I tried casting Hide Out on one of my cities, but have no idea if it will affect xInt's strategy at all. Considering he has multiple heroes in the area, it probably isn't even hiding anything from him that wouldn't be hidden by the fog of war anyway.

@xlnt: that's an exploit and it should be reported to Triumph so that they correct it. Please let me know if you plan to report it on the Help forum, otherwise I'll do it.

Yeah, I think there are too many units with True Sight. We proposed a reduction of their numbers with Zaskow at some point but we were a bit alone. Don't know if people would support that now (the ideas was at least to remove it from 4-5 units where it really does not make sense to have True Sight).

I'll play my turn tonight - i.e. in 6 hours (:

i reeeealy hope this spec is useful somehow - true sight is so easy to obtain and i found a nice use of the change terrain spell  you can't cast it on a tile with a unit and the game tells you so ): when you had that raven in my capitol if you recall the last turn

It's my first time actually surviving long enough with rogue to make late-game. If you take too long I might actually go practice in single-player to see what my units are capable of.

I'm actually enjoying the partisan specialisation, even though half their techs are useless. I think that the balance patch will make it a fun specialisation if it can fix up a few of the early techs.

I'll go to a short (30-4th) vacation, some concerts in Kavarna, BG

i need to postpone my turns until i get back - sorry guys ):

p.s. played another bad turn - the game is very nice and i like it a lot but the RNGesus is having a lot of fun with me. Most games i lose 4-5 creatures, here the count is around 30 so far... a halfling just had 5 lucky in a row! anyway - see you later guys

It's certainly true that a few failed convert attempts can completely screw your game, which during an multiplay game can be very broken imo.

The rng is always a bit of a pain in the ass. This game quite depends on it, but it doesn't really bother me in single player. ofcourse multiplayer it's not preferred.

user
Published on Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

I find mind control stats to push the RNG a lot harder than other strats, but I agree generally.

I had another game as a rogue in which I was rushing bards and only ended up getting one successful charm off with them. That kind of thing makes a huge swing in power depending on whether it works or not.

Our "no mind control" game is going pretty slowly, but I really like how it feels so far. I understand that conversion is a part of this game, but playing without it while not worrying about opponents abusing it (or that ridiculous necromancer situation) actually makes the game seem a lot more reasonable. Then again, having a more predictable game might make the game feel stale quicker. Definitely a good work-in-progress though.

user
Published on Thu, 01 Jan 1970 01:00:00 +0100

i have lost around 20 units this game... almost as much as i have converted Pp~

anyway - it's fun, but it reminds me how much i dislike RNG
not intended as complain, just general rant about design paterns went wrong in a game i love ):

I'm having an error here. Couldn't upload my turn, and then was told that all multi-player features are currently disabled. I didn't change any settings recently, and my internet is fine for everything else, so I suspect it's an issue on the server's end. I'll try uploading my turn again tomorrow.

I took a screenshot of the failed upload, but in full screen it's kind of useless since there is no time-stamp or anything on it. I could upload it anyway if anyone cares.
